Ok, so it’s Tuesday. This post has been sitting as a draft since yesterday morning, so I figured I’d better go ahead and post it.

14 Sunday – meatballs

15 Monday – leftover pizza

16 Tuesday – chili

17 Wednesday – crockpot chicken. The boys have flu shots and the appointment is pretty close to church time, so it’ll be something on the go for us.

18 Thursday – pumpkin soup and wheat rolls

19 Friday – I’m having a Tupperware party here. So desserts for me (lol!) and who knows what for my guys (Stephen plans to head away from the hen-fest, lol)

20 Saturday – hot dogs

Homeschool Memoirs: #7 Snack Foods

October 3, 2008 at 8:41 pm in Homeschool

Photobucket

The theme this week is snack foods. Here are some of the things we much on:

Peanuts
Dehydrated zucchini chips (sometimes with spaghetti sauce, yum)
Dried apples
Yogurt
Smoothies or milkshakes made with dry milk or sometimes eggs for extra protein
Cottage cheese when it’s in the house
Carrot sticks
Popcorn
Peanut butter on a spoon
Frozen chocolate chips (Susan does this too)
Homemade ice cream (from the in-laws’ house)
Sometimes we have cookies or other baked goods in the house, but those are kept in the freezer. I have a hard time leaving them alone, so I try not to make them very often. Then they usually go right in the freezer – so the temptation to eat a bunch is diminished.

Bees bearding

October 1, 2008 at 8:12 am in Bees,Farm and Garden

Here’s a picture I took Sunday afternoon of our bees. We’ve seen them beard around the entrance of the hive before, but never to this extent.

I wasn’t wearing the bee suit so I didn’t want to get too close (and this was before I got stung, lol). It was interesting trying to get a good macro shot while still keeping my distance.

One of these days I want to suit up and get some really close shots of the frames inside.

You can click the picture to get a closer view. Notice the chain of bees hanging off the bottom. This just fascinates me!

My first bee sting

One of our bees got me Sunday night. What’s funny is it’s my first bee sting I’ve ever had. I’m 29. We’ve even had beehives for a year – and I haven’t gotten stung until this week. Weird.

The girls were acting pretty agitated, so when we got home from church Sunday night I was trying to keep my distance while watching them. Apparently I still got too close, because one of the bees flew up my skirt and stung me.

It’s driving me nuts. It’s a huge red spot – warm and really itchy. I’m trying not to scratch, but I’m not doing so great. :O) Hopefully it’ll get better soon. What gets me is that the sting itself didn’t hurt that bad, but the reaction to it is driving me crazy.

I told my best friend (the one that’s an RN) about it and how I reacted and she wonders if I’m allergic to bee stings. I hope I’m not. Just in case though, we’re keeping Benadryl in the house for any one of us who may need it.

So. Baking soda has become my friend, lol. Hopefully today will be better than yesterday!
