My tooth feels funny

September 22, 2008 at 5:27 pm in Slice of Life

I am now the lucky owner of a temporary dental crown. Yay, lol!

For years, I’ve had a small cap on my front tooth from where it broke when I was in grade school. Today I went to the dentist to begin the process of getting a permanent crown on that tooth.

It went pretty well, and surprisingly, didn’t really hurt. I was expecting it to hurt. Well, the procedure didn’t hurt, but it’s starting to ache a bit now.

It’s strange, now that the meds are starting to wear off. My upper lip and my nose both feel strange, and I think the crown is going to take some getting used to. Things just feel different around the tooth.

My favorite part was getting to watch a movie while they did the work. There were a few times when the dentist’s hands were in the way, so even though I saw most of the ending, I’m not really sure why it ended the way it did. Oh well. I’m not a huge tv watcher (I’ve threatened to cut our tv cord more times than I can count!), but it was a welcome distraction today.

Now, I get to go back for impressions in a week or so, and then I’ll get a permanent crown after that. At least the long part’s over with!

Another triples trip

September 19, 2008 at 3:00 pm in Coupons,Frugality

Stephen stopped by HT on his way from work today, and did really well. That surprised me. A lot of the coupons he took were for free items – which I incorrectly assumed would be out of stock. Some of the items were gone, but not all of them like I thought. The store he stopped at is farther from our house, so we don’t generally go to that one for triples. It’d be nice if it were closer though because the store is huge and really well-stocked. I’m thankful he could stop there today though!

He spent $10.20 and saved $31.31, and only used 14 coupons. I told him I had half a mind to go back in to the closest HT tonight and use the other 6, lol. I’d do an entirely new coupon run but want to stay within their 20 coupons per household per day rule.

There is more grocery shopping we need to do, but most of what we need right now is not on our triples list. It’s cheaper to get those things elsewhere though. We’ll be in town tomorrow morning for soulwinning, and we could go grocery shopping then, but that makes for a really long morning with the extra stops.

Ah. Decisions, decisions. It’ll all work out. Now, if I can ever make up my mind!

The new WordPress admin panel

September 18, 2008 at 10:13 pm in Techie Stuff

I just have to say that this new WordPress admin panel is great! I just upgraded this week, and the changes are refreshing. It’s been somewhat of a challenge to find things since the layout is different, but that’s ok.

Whoever wrote the code has a sense of humor though. I accidentally tried to compare a post revision to itself, and it sent the software into a fake self-destruct sequence. Brilliant. It was a great laugh!

I can’t wait to see what other surprises there are in the new interface!

Triple coupons

Harris Teeter is tripling coupons again – YAY! I LOVE triple coupons!

This morning my alarm went off at 5, and I was able to get out the door by 6:15. That was a bit of a surprise, lol. From now on, I will always try to go first thing like that. The shelves were stocked, the store was quiet, there aisles weren’t filled with rude people. . .it was great.

I didn’t think I had that many coupons, but after my first trip, I guess there’s more than I thought. There were several things I didn’t get to (there’s a 20 coupon limit). It’s ok – the things I got today were mostly the free things that likely won’t be in stock later in the weekend.

I spent $6.52, and saved $37.90. That works for me!

One thing I thought was really neat was that since the sour cream was on sale, I got an additional $.80 off for each carton I bought. There were a few other things that weren’t free, so that balanced out really well.

Gerber keeps sending me coupons, and that makes jars of baby food about $.10 each. Nice. I’ve been making baby food myself, so I tried to get kinds that I don’t usually make myself. The empty jars will be nice to be able to reuse too.

Stephen will drive by a HT tomorrow on his way home from work, so I’ll send some coupons with him. Then when we’re in town Saturday, I’m hoping to stop by again.

My favorite though is probably the oatmeal. We go through old fashioned oats like crazy, and I have coupons for it. The best part? It’s on sale, making it completely free with coupons.

I love couponing!

September 17, 2008 at 9:19 am in Homeschool

This one should be interesting. I like to read others’ link roundups (sometimes, lol, depending on the general topic). I’ve never done one myself that I can remember, so here goes.

Since I’ve been making you work really hard on the previous Memoir themes I decided to take a little break, and do something fun! This week I want to invite you to share a few of your favorite things. I know the list of favorite things could be never-ending, but I’ve made a list…

Modesty

September 16, 2008 at 9:04 pm in Proverbs 31

My bloggy friend Karen has a wonderful post on her blog about modesty. She does a great job putting it into words, so I figured I’d link to it. Hope it’s helpful to someone!

Compliment on my quilt

Stephen’s mom stopped by last night, and while she was here, looked at the quilt I just finished. Her comment? “You did a good job.” Coming from her, that means a LOT. She is a phenomenal quilter, and to receive a compliment like that really made my day. It’s far from perfect, and I was actually pretty nervous about what she would say about it. It was a surprise to hear her say she thought I did well.

Here’s a picture of the quilt on my rocking chair, with the matching pillow I made a long time ago.

Menu Plan Monday – September 15

September 15, 2008 at 8:26 pm in Menu Planning

null

School has started again, so that means school leftovers for us. Stephen’s dad sent us a massive pan of chicken and rice for tonight’s dinner. :)

14 Sunday – leftovers from my family’s visit here

15 Monday – chicken and rice

16 Tuesday – venison chili

17 Wednesday – chicken and rice (yes, again. There’s a TON of it, and since it’s a church night that will really help with the leaving-for-church chaos)

18 Thursday – venison cubed steak with baked yellow squash (probably squash casserole)

19 Friday – hot dogs and sweet potato fries if we stay home, probably pizza if we go to the in-laws

20 Saturday – ground beef, cabbage, green peppers, and onions

You can read more menu plans over at I’m an Organizing Junkie.

Hiking

September 14, 2008 at 11:45 pm in Pictures

We went hiking the other day at a nearby state park. It was absolutely beautiful there! It’s been a long time since I’ve been hiking, but it was really nice. I wasn’t sure how S would handle it, since we’ve never had him walk that distance, but he did fine. We walked about a mile and a half, and he didn’t complain a single time that I was aware of. It was great! Next time I’d like to go farther, but we figured we’d better keep it short first to see how S would do.

C rode along in the sling. He started off on my back (which I loved!), but he was sleeping so soundly that he started tipping over. :O) So we woke him up and I wore him in front instead.

And here’s a picture to show that you can go hiking in a skirt. LOL! Next time I’ll wear a lighter weight skirt though – this one was too warm for the hot afternoon.
